Best SmartDNS for MTV

Music Television, also known as MTV, has long been a staple of American culture. Since it’s launch on August 1st, 1981, MTV has become one of the most recognizable brands in history. Of course, the original concept of the station was to show music videos 24/7. In recent years however, the majority of the programming has changed to mostly reality shows, and off network syndicated shows as well. In the US, just over 80% of houses with a television have access to MTV.  If you go to MTV.com, you can still watch music videos on demand, and view clips from the latest shows. If you are going to do that outside of the US, you will need a SmartDNS.

As music videos became more popular, there were several other TV channels to show music videos. It seemed that MTV’s big rival in the market was VH1, but they were owned by MTV as well. NBC also entered the space by playing Friday Night Videos, a show that ran from 1983-2002. Beginning in 1995, MTV started moving from the music video format.

Whereas many of us miss the old days of watching videos on MTV, they do have some other shows that are worth taking a look at. They have their coverage of reality shows, but they also have original programming like Scream and Teen Wolf, just to name a few. These shows are both done in a series format and are based on popular movies of the same name.

So what does a SmartDNS do? That part is simple. The SmartDNS service allows you to gain access to channels that would normally be restricted outside the targeted zone. That means if you try to access MTV.com outside of the targeted area, you would be blocked. That could be a real drag if you were traveling abroad or located in a different country.

Let’s take a look at other potential uses for a SmartDNS. Netflix is the first example that comes to mind . As you may or may not be aware, online streaming services may have different libraries for different regions, or they may use geo-restrictions and everyone outside of a targeted area would be restricted from seeing that programming.  That is certainly the case with Netflix. With a SmartDNS, you could connect to your home region and watch the library you would normally watch, or, if you wanted to access content from a different market, you could do that as well.

The same could be said for using All 4 or BBC iPlayer from the UK. Both of these streaming services are offered free of charge to UK residents. If you aren’t in the UK and wanted to explore either option, you can’t do that without a SmartDNS. What that would do is intercept your IP data, and give it an IP address that would be located in the UK. Why should you have to miss out on great programming just because of your location?

Another popular streaming service is called Pandora. It is a music streaming service that will allow you to stream your favorite music, but also will make musical suggestions based on many different criteria, and it does this all for free. Since Pandora is only available in 3 countries, if you are  traveling or live outside of those countries, you would be blocked without a SmartDNS.

Though there are more services, and more popping up every day, we will wrap this up with HBO Now. Because of some great programming decisions, HBO Now launched just before the new season of the popular show was released, Game of Thrones. Of course, Game of Thrones has only 13 episodes a season and is over far too quickly for most. Since the stand alone streaming service HBO Now is only available in the US, you could see it outside with a SmartDNS.

And there you have it. With a SmartDNS, you would simply set it up the first time to watch MTV.com online,  and not worry about it again unless you wanted to switch regions. The best SmartDNS companies like the selections listed above, will help you unblock geo-restrictions for popular US channels like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Instant Video, HBO NOW, Showtime, CBS All Access, Sling TV, and many more.
