Stream Showtime on Roku and Playstation

Last week Showtime announced they plan to launch a stand-alone streaming service.  The new offering will compete with HBO Now which launched in April and has drawn a lot of attention.  The new Showtime Streaming service is set to roll out in July, 2015.  The original announcement stated that Showtime would support Apple devices at launch (Apple TV, iPad, iPhone).  I’m excited to share that they are adding Roku and Playstation to the list of supported devices.  Watch your favorite Showtime original shows and movies online without a cable or satellite subscription.  You can visit sho.com for more details.

The addition of Roku and Playstation (PS4, PS3) game consoles will expand the opportunity for Showtime when they launch the new streaming service next month.  I can’t wait to enjoy my favorite Showtime originals without having to subscribe to DirecTV.  I think it’s safe to say that 2015 is already a banner year for those wanting to cut the cord and cancel their cable or satellite subscriptions.  Sling TV brought popular channels like ESPN and HGTV.  Then HBO Now launched in April.  Now Showtime will join the list of streaming stand-alone streaming services to hit the market.  Who knows what the second half of the year will bring.  I suspect a new Apple TV streaming service.

The new Showtime streaming service will have it’s own Roku channel at launch.  Playstation owners will be able to stream Showtime on both PS4 and PS3 devices.  Not to be confused with Showtime Anytime, the new service will not require a cable or satellite subscription.  You will be able to sign up directly at sho.com and will not require any other memberships.  You will only need an internet connection to watch.  The service will cost $10.99 a month which is $4 less than HBO Now.

If you would like to watch Showtime from outside their supported viewing area I suggest using a VPN.  A good VPN will help you unblock geo-restrictions and give you access to the new Showtime streaming service from anywhere.  Of course you will still need to subscribe but a VPN will take your current location out of the equation.  That can be a life saver for those who travel frequently and don’t want to miss out on their favorite shows.  A VPN will also help you access other popular channels like Netflix, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer from anywhere in the world.
