Showtime Launches OTT Streaming Service

Last month Showtime announced they planned to launch an over-the-top (OTT) video streaming service in July.  It looks like the wait is over as the new Showtime streaming service is live.  You can visit sho.com to learn more.  Showtime is offering a 30 day free trial to all new members.  You can sign up directly from the Showtime app and watch on a wide range of devices including iOS (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV), Roku, or Playstation 4.

Cord cutters everywhere are having a great year.  It started with the launch of Sling TV on February 9th.  That was followed by a big splash when HBO introduced their HBO Now OTT streaming service on April 9th, just ahead of the season premiere of Game of Thrones.  Needless to say GoT fans were more than pleased with the chance to enjoy HBO without having a cable or satellite subscription.  The same is sure to be true for fans of Showtime originals like Ray Donovan, Masters of Sex, and Homeland.

What can you expect from the new Showtime OTT service?  For starters you will gain access to all your favorite Showtime series.  We’re not just talking current episodes, you can watch every episode of popular Showtime originals, past and present.  From there you also gain access to Showtime movies and documentaries.  I must admit to being a fan of documentaries.  If you are too the service offers some good selections.  Sports fans will enjoy the Jim Rome show and 60 Minutes Sports.  Not to mention Showtime championship boxing which lets you stream some of the best boxing matches directly to your screen.  Last but certainly not least you can watch a live feed of Showtime East or West coast broadcasts.

The new Showtime OTT service starts with a 30 day free trial.  After the free trial period you can continue accessing their video streaming service for $10.99 a month.  That compares well to HBO Now which costs $14.99 a month.  Hulu subscribers can bundle Showtime for an additional $8.99 a month.  That will save you $2 off the Hulu / Showtime bundle.  Sony is also offering Showtime as a channel for Playstation Vue customers.

Check out the new Showtime stand-alone streaming service and let us know what you think.  You can sign up for the 30 day free trial directly from their iOS app, Apple TV, or Roku channel.  If you currently live or plan to travel outside of the United States you can enjoy channels like Showtime, HBO Now, Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, CBS All Access, and live sporting events from anywhere in the world by using a Smart DNS service.
