Netflix’s Ambitious Plans Were Realized 15 Years Ago

Over the years, we have witnessed the growth of Netflix, and have seen them expand in to almost every country in the world. Many of us though, were not aware that Netflix had the lofty goal of becoming the biggest streaming company in the world back in 2000. Who would have thought that in the 15 years since they first wanted to go public, they would actually achieve that goal.

Keep in mind that the year 2000 was the end of the tech bubble. Netflix was created in 1997 at the beginning of the dot com craze. Once the bubble burst, many companies that were created during that time were either bought out or failed completely. Netflix originally planned to do their IPO in 2000, but the climate was not good for tech companies.

In 2002, they finally made their IPO and the company was finally turning a profit, instead of losing money. They felt they were going to be biggest in the world when they first went public. Over the years, they have quietly grown and obtained exclusive deals with content providers. Netflix’s low price and ease of use became a selling point for their line.

As internet speeds started coming up around the world, Netflix of course expanded. Today, this little company with the lofty ambitions states they will be in every country in the world by the end of 2016. They have not stopped there, though. Their goal is to become bigger than Disney, and be the biggest media company in the world. Whether or not that will happen will of course depend on different factors.

If Netflix continues the way it is heading, has the patience they have had, and have their own great programming, it is possible it may happen eventually. Netflix has proven over time they are not a company to be counted out. They have faced adversity, and even an occasional stumble. But just remember, they already achieved one goal that seemed unattainable at the time.
