The Verizon IndyCar series is the North American premier open wheel racing series, and is celebrating it’s 20th year. In 2016, the season begins on March 13th, and runs through the summer, ending with the final race on September 18th. There are several different coverage options for watching the races. One of the most famous races in the USA is the Indianapolis 500. In fact, 2016 marks the 105th running of the race. In 1996, the IndyCar Series began as a competitor to the CART series, the name for the top tier open wheel racing in the US. After some legal issues, the CART series folded in 2008, leaving the Indy Racing league to be the top tier. The changes were announced by the CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Tony George. The new rules moved to a chassis that was less expensive, and production based engines, vs the turbo charged engines that had been a part of open wheel racing since the 70s. Those statements effectively outlawed the old standards.
