Do you have a Google Chromecast streaming video stick? If so you have access to some new channels including HBO Now, Travel Channel, Food Network. and Pokemon TV. Google also added some games to the casting line up including FitFlap and Catch Phrase Blitz. If you don’t already have a Chromecast they are available online for around $30 from vendors like Amazon. You can use it to cast your favorite streaming channels from your Android phone or tablet to your television.
HBO Now launched back in April, just days before the premiere of the new Game of Thrones season. As you can imagine the timing was perfect. Just in case you’re new to HBO Now we’ll give you a quick rundown of the service. It is HBO’s new over-the-top (OTT) streaming service. They have been offering HBO Go for awhile now but it requires you to have a cable or satellite subscription. The new HBO Now service is stand alone so all you need is an internet connection and $15 a month for the service.
Apple fans use AirPlay to stream content to their television through Apple TV set top box. The same is true for Chromecast. It gives Android users the ability to stream content to their television through the Chromecast streaming stick. Couple the ability to cast with popular streaming services and you can see why so many people are cutting the cord.
Once again the new lineup of Chromecast channels includes HBO Now, Travel Channel, Food Network, and Pokemon TV. You will still need a subscription to paid services like HBO Now. The others may require a cable or satellite login. You can also access the Travel Channel and Food Network through Sling TV. Dish Network launched Sling TV earlier this year as an OTT service with access to popular channels including ESPN, A&E, and HGTV. Along with about 20 other channels for $20 a month. They also offer an HBO on-demand option.
If you currently live or plan to travel outside of the United States, you can enjoy channels like HBO Now, Showtime, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Sling TV, CBS All Access, and live sporting events via Chromecast by using a Smart DNS service.
