Watch Wimbledon Live Online

The Wimbledon Championships, or just Wimbledon as we know it now, is the oldest and most regal tennis tournament in the world. Chronologically, it is the third of the four major tourneys and is always held in London, at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. It remains the only tennis to use grass as opposed to hard court or clay surfaces like the others. The club itself has modernized over time by adding a retractable roof to center court in order to stop delays in the matches due to the famous London weather.

The 2016 Wimbledon Championships will be watched with a careful eye. The #1 ranked player in the world at the moment is the Serbian, Novak Djokovic. Unlike the rest of the strong field against him, Djokovic did not play the intermediate Aegon Championship this year so he would be well rested for Wimbledon. That said, the 29 year old defending tournament champion will have his work cut out for him.

He could face Andy Murray once again as they match up in so many finals.  Novak beat seven-time Wimbledon champion, Roger Federer in the finals last year. After losing Wimbledon to Djokovic in 2014, Federer was looking to unseat him as champion. The Swiss-born Federer was ranked #2 in the world, but he was regarded by many as the best tennis player of all time. His impressive 131-19 record on grass spoke for itself, but he still lost to Djokovic after four close sets.

Andy Murray is no stranger to this field of competitors either. Andy Murray defeated Federer in the 2012 Olympics to bring home a gold medal. He also was the first Brittish man since 1936 to win a Grand Slam tournament by defeating Novak Djokovic in of 2012. Murray became the third man in history to hold the Gold Medal and two majors on different surfaces. The other two were Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal.

As mentioned, Rafael Nadal accomplished the same feat as Murray when he brought the gold medal home to Spain in 2008. He is also one of two male players who have won at least two Grand Slam titles on three different surfaces-hard court, grass, and clay. He is only ranked 10th in the world at the moment, but the Spaniard nicknamed “The King of Clay” will not be easily defeated either. Will any of these worthy athletes be able to unseat the reigning Wimbledon champion? Watch and find out!

As far as television coverage goes, in the UK, the BBC is the host broadcaster for the event.  If you plan to be outside the country during the event I would suggest using a SmartDNS to watch online by streaming via BBC iPlayer. The tournament will also be carried on ESPN and ESPN2. That’s great if you have a cable or satellite login. Otherwise you can also view ESPN through Sling TV. So what is a SmartDNS?

A SmartDNS service will allow you to enjoy geo-blocked content that you would not normally be able to see. Geo-blocking is a technology used to identify the location of the person logging in. If you are not in the UK, you may be geographically restricted from watching the broadcast without a SmartDNS.

Wimbledon will be covered on many international channels as well.  This is the master list of the all of the channels and broadcast partners. The tournament’s goal is to bring the event for free to as many world citizens as possible, but what if you live in an area where you can not view it for free? What if your are not in the UK and do not have a paid cable or satellite subscription? That is when you would need a good SmartDNS service to watch.

So if you live in a country that does not have this stream for free, or you are traveling to an area without coverage of Wimbledon, a SmartDNS service is a great option.

Best Smart DNS to Watch Wimbledon

You have a few Smart DNS services to choose from. When it comes to streaming live sporting events you want to make sure the company is reliable and ready to unblock the channels you plan to watch on the device you plan to stream them on.  The last thing you want to do is get ready to watch a Wimbledon match and be disappointed.  Visiting a site only to be greeted by a restricted access message is never fun but it’s especially annoying when you’re trying to watch your favorite tennis player compete in this grand old championship.  Here are some services that are up to the task.

The Smart DNS providers listed above offer free trials. The trials are open to all new members and do not require any payment information. The companies understand you need time to test their services. Just enter your email address and test out the services free of charge. The free trial will give you plenty of time to watch Wimbledon and test other channels.

Unblock-Us

I enjoy using Unblock-Us for live events. The service is easy to set up and is quite reliable. They have a full list of channels along with supported devices. You can use the service on your PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, game console, media player and more. Unblock-Us was one of the first Smart DNS services to launch and has built up a great reputation in the industry. Unblock-Us is my favorite because it has always worked. I have never had any problems with the service.

For those who want to add privacy protection I suggest OverPlay. They offer VPN access in addition to Smart DNS, however you won’t need a VPN to unblock geographic restrictions. A VPN will work for that purpose, but it’s more expensive and really just overkill. Additionally, some content providers like Hulu try to block VPNs from accessing their sites. A VPN is a good choice for those who want an encrypted connection.
